Ideefix, Ideen umsetzen leicht gemacht

Ideefix is the result of a practical research project with businesses in the tourism industry. The main objective was to develop a method that would help companies to test and develop their ideas faster. In the tourism industry, employees often have many ideas for new services or improvements, but often lack the know-how or the time and space to implement them. Ideefix is a website with a guide through the whole process as well as different offers regarding support and coaching.

I was in charge of the project, including the financial aspects, and I also did the workshops, the testing, the prototyping and the creation of the content and icons for the website.

Creativity techniques workshop

As part of a Swiss tourism conference called Destination Lab in 2023, I led a workshop in which around 50 participants were introduced to various creativity exercises. The workshop was a success and some participants didn't want to stop practicing. Afterwards, I gave them templates to use in their teams in the future.

Workshop addressing the shortage of skilled labour in the hospitality industry

This workshop was co-facilitated with two other colleagues. The participants came from different hotels and restaurants chains. We started with a "how might we" question, which the groups could further define for themselves, then we went through an ideation and prototyping session. The result was a range of strategies to help the different companies become more attractive employers and fill their vacancies. The strategies ranged from health management to TickTock campaigns.

Master's thesis, a taboo

Staying objective and adopting different perspectives is the essence of human-centred thinking. I have often practised this while researching and writing my Master’s thesis. The project is called "Brich s'Lohntabou". Employers and employees have given me insights into the salary taboo in Switzerland. The in-depth research resulted in a chatbot called "Lohna", which was tested, iterated and improved several times. I used the no-code tool Voiceflow and created the desired character and storylines with the help of prompts. To summarise, my work was an attempt to apply design thinking methods in a social context. Experimenting in a non-comercial situation broadened my skills and horizons. During this time, I also worked intensively with Figma and AI.

Sprint in Favara, Master Service Design

As a team of 9 students, we were invited to southern Sicily for a two-week sprint for the cultural organisation Farm Cultural Park. As we had a variety of skills in the team, we worked in small groups on different topics. I was able to contribute with my expertise in tourism and I focused on interviews with staff, stakeholders, and guests as well as the structure of the website. As a team, we managed to get an incredible amount of work done and helped Farm Cultural Park improve their overall services.

Long Night of Careers 2021

The Long Night of Careers at the University of Applied Sciences Grisons is an event that takes place every few years. It is an interactive exchange between about 300 students and employers. My role was to lead the project management and to provide coaching to three students who were helping to organise the event. With so many stakeholders, there was a lot of coordination and negotiation to be done. The evening was a success and as it was the first event after the pandemic, it was a special moment for many of us.

Robotics in the Hospitality Industry

This research project investigates the use of two different social robots in the hotel industry. The opportunities and challenges have been researched and shared with the Swiss hotel industry. The aim is to facilitate the arrival, stay, and departure of guests. It also aims to facilitate cooperation between different tourism partners.

In this project, I was responsible for ethnographic observations and qualitative interviews. In total, I analysed and evaluated about 80 hours of observations and interviews using MAXQDA.

Ordering process for implants, CAS Data Product Design

This group work began with a wicked problem: an implant manufacturer still receives receipts and orders for implants by fax. Depending on the hospital, other channels are also used. However, this can lead to high costs for the implant provider, as the local storage is inefficient.

The idea of an implant IOT box for hospitals was developed based on the structure of the double diamond process, several pitching rounds, value propositions, blueprints, etc. The focus was on the possibilities of data science. The concept has not yet been implemented, but two manufacturers have expressed interest.

Digital Marketing
Le Gibloux

The aim of the E-Tourism (BSc) course was to digitally market a real or fictional offer. This included a Google Ads campaign, the creation of a website with Jimdoo and a video clip. In a group of three, I marketed the leisure destination Le Gibloux in my home town of Fribourg. Situated on the border of three tourism regions, this mountain has little online presence, even though it has a lot to offer. That's why it seemed like the perfect subject for a fictional website. Below is a paper prototype of the site's navigation. The video clip can be viewed by clicking here.

Herootel, an innovation challenge

As part of an innovation management module in my undergraduate degree, my team and I won the 2017 HESS-SO Innovation Award. The innovation we developed is called Herootel. There are many escape games on the market today. Storytelling usually plays an important role in making the game exciting. Herootel is a micro tour operator that implements the idea of the escape game in historic and small hotels in the Alpine region. These hotels are usually closed in the low season due to low demand. Herootel offers a hotel escape game experience. These events take place in historic hotels in the low season and are unique depending on the hotel and its surroundings. Guests get a hotel experience where everyone can be a hero or heroine.
